The Breastplate of St Patrick
The Breastplate of St Patrick is a famous prayer, said to be written by St Patrick. It references the omnipresence of Jesus - that he is everywhere, not just in our world, but in our lives as well. The longer form of this prayer also reflects that we are here today through the strength of God, and we can rely on God to protects us, like armour, against the evils of the world.
This prayer is prayed every morning, and at special occasions.
Christ be with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me.
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right hand,
Christ on my left.
Christ where I lie,
Christ where I sit,
Christ where I arise.
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me.
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me.
Christ in every eye that sees me.
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Salvation is of the Lord,
Salvation is of Christ.
May your Salvation, O Lord, be ever with us.
